The tradition of the St. Joseph table began in Sicily, Italy, during the Middle Ages when there was a severe drought. The Faithful began a novena to St. Joseph, praying for nine consecutive days for the drought to end. Their prayers were answered as the rainy weather commenced. In gratitude and promise, a huge banquet was held and all, especially the poor, were invited to eat and give thanks to St. Joseph for his intercession to our Lord.
