Sacraments

Baptisms

Baptisms are celebrated the second and fourth Sunday of each month. 2:00 PM in Polish and 3:00 PM in English. If this is your first child, or it has been at least five years since your last child was baptized, you must attend a Parent Baptismal Preparation Session, which is given the first Sunday of the month at 9:45 AM in English and 2:15 PM in Polish in the Gathering Area of the Church. Please call the Parish Office to schedule the Baptism, and if necessary, to register to attend a Baptismal Preparation Session.

First Reconciliation / First Holy Communion

Second graders celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the winter and receive First Holy Communion in the spring. A two-year preparation is required. Parents are expected to attend sacramental meetings to help prepare their child for these sacraments.

Confirmation

The eighth graders celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring. A two-year preparation period is required. Parents are expected to attend a sacramental meeting. Adults seeking Confirmation should contact the Director of Religious Education.

Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven sacraments of the Church.  Its roots go back to the ministry of Jesus. This sacrament is not new; rather, it is a ritual that has been restored by Vatican II. Through the Anointing of the Sick, the Church offers God’s special care; it always gives us emotional and spiritual healing.

Twice a year, St. Zachary has Anointing of the Sick during the 5:00 Mass on Saturday.

If you want a family member anointed in the hospital or at home, contact the Parish Office at 847-956-7020.  It is best to have your loved one anointed while he or she can still receive Communion and participate in the sacrament.

Matrimony

Couples should refrain from setting a firm wedding date, until they have met with a Priest or Deacon, to complete their plans. Please call the Parish Office to make an appointment at least four months prior to your date (much sooner, if either has been previously married). The requirements for marriage in the Church will be discussed during the initial interview.
